It is dubbed as the true story of the most prolific serial killer in history. With comparisons to the meager victim counts of Jack the Ripper and the Zodiac Killer, we are told that "Gustave" has claimed over 300 victims. And is still at large. It's Jason and Freddy combined (of Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street, respectively), but only this horror villain is real. The imagery on the trailer is of never-ending skulls, and the movie is Primeval. But here's the kicker. The premise has a punchline. Gustave is better suited for National Geographic than a horror film. Why? He's a crocodile, something the movie's promoters intentionally sidestep. That said, he is real, and he is given honest coverage in a National Geographic article that's worth the read.

A friend of mine was psyched to go see it, until I told her the serial killer was a crocodile. Man, was she angry about the misleading marketing! She went from eager-to-go-see to no-way-no-how very fast.
Thanks for the link to the National Geographic article, which is a bit more honest.

No worries, John. The funny thing is that I was similarly intrigued by the marketing, so much so that I did a google search on the movie and "gustave" which brought me to the truth.

Mark

What I usually do is I have a folder in my Bookmarks for "Movies" with bookmarks for IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes and MetaCritic. The latter two provide me with good insight about what movies to go see. Anything 90% or above is usually worth the $10-12 of a theatre ticket.
The last couple of movies this approach has "recommended me": Children of Men, Casino Royale, Pan's Labyrinth.
All good.
