The legal skirmish between Viacom and Google/YouTube is great drama with a couple of interesting storylines. One is that at first blush it looks like a classic David versus Goliath story but then you realize that it is not so obvious who David is and who is Goliath. Google, after all, has a bigger market cap than Viacom. Plus, new media, which Google is an offspring of, is clearly disrupting old media, which Viacom is a product of.
In any event, I was asked by Tom Taulli of BloggingStocks for a quickie analysis of Viacom's lawsuit against YouTube. Here is an excerpt:
