There is a great excerpt from ‘The Choice,’ PBS’s excellent documentary on the presidential elections, where the year before formally deciding to run for president, Obama dedicated himself to campaigning tirelessly on behalf of candidate after candidate.
When the time came for Obama to launch his own run, the IOU box was full of politicos pre-disposed to support the new guy, and the rest was/is history.
Now, think about how you can invest in the success of others in the coming months, either through mentoring, working your network on their behalf or more formally rolling up your sleeves to help them get to the next level.
Maybe it will yield you nothing more than the soulful knowledge that you’ve “given back,” maybe it will yield fruits down the road for you, but trust that only good can come from such efforts, and remember that no EARNEST effort is too small.
