You’ve probably heard Warren Buffett’s axiom about being fearful when others are being greedy, and greedy when others are being fearful.
Well, to watch the news, listen to the radio, read the papers and listen to the prognosticators, you can't help but notice that the 2009 narrative is replete with story after story of pessimism, fear and caution.
What should that tell you?
Well, here’s my mantra for the year ahead:
- Hold my Ch’i High: Why? Because now is the time when poise, a clear mind and standing tall in the face of uncertainty will be rewarded.
- Lean into Life: Why? Because Buffett logic just makes sense at times like these. Plus, timidity has a way of leading to self-fulfilling prophecies.
- Maintain a Measuring Stick: Why? If the meltdown has taught us anything, it is that blind faith is a recipe for disaster. Besides, you can’t improve what you don’t measure, and by qualitatively understanding your surroundings, you can better read when gravity is your friend or enemy, when you are in the right body of water or not, and adjust accordingly.
I wish you all the best in the year ahead. Cheers!
