This has been a week of milestones for my company, Unicorn Labs. Not only is the company approaching 200K downloads for its first application, Unicorn Shots (dubbed 'The Crazy Scene Maker'); and not only did it recently ship its face painting app for World Cup fanatics, Soccer Face; but its first game is now live in Apple's App Store.
Introducing Astro Junk, a space game that is inspired by classic arcade 'shooter' games, but which combines dazzling visuals, quirky sounds and touch-based interaction to deliver a hella good time that is wholly native to the iPad and iPhone/iPod touch.
For iPad owners, there is Astro Junk HD, which we lovingly tout as an "adult beverage" that is kid-friendly, too.
Why? This is a game that you want to play with two hands onscreen, headphones on and the sound way up (imbibing a beer or two doesn't hurt).
At the same time, the destruction is space garbage; namely, asteroids, false teeth, soccer balls, abandoned shopping carts and the like. In other words, pro green, clean fun that is totally acceptable for kids of all ages.
The iPhone/iPod touch version of Astro Junk is downscaled for that form-factor, incorporates an optional accelerometer mode, and is just plain addictive.
If you are in to bragging, both versions allow you to post high scores to your Facebook Wall.
Here is a short video preview of Astro Junk HD in action.
Check it out, and if you like, write a review and/or tell a friend.
